I have taken inflatable kayaks on BA flights to Canada and the United States. I put mine in a bag together with PFD, 4 way split paddles, pump and kayaking clothes etc. total weight was JUST under 23kg and as far as BA was concerned just my second checked bag. I believe the "kayak ban" is for rigid boats which tend to be rather long and difficult to fit into the cargo hold.
