I can't answer the question. As I said in my first post, this seems screwy.
As for the miles being worth much less as non-SE, absolutely. I intend to burn up all (or almost all) my Aeroplan miles prior to June 29, 2020 or the day I'm no longer SE, whichever comes first. A decade ago, I used to recommend Aeroplan credit cards to my friends. Nowadays, I tell them to just go for cash back or maybe something like Avion.
