I sent them an email stating that I won't agree to send any credit card information per email as it is, as Often1 notes, a very foolish thing to do in a world of constant credit card breaches.

Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit agreed that I would be able to settle the payment during the check-in process.

However, if this is as common as it seems to be, it surely should be investigated into as this is an obvious bug in the system. The response by Amy seems a bit strange?
