Yes, using VA domestic lounges when departing on a VA international flight is no problem.
It can't hurt to try, other than that lounge is basically landside.
The (very nice) VA lounge in MEL is landside, not just "basically" landside. Here, that works in your favor: no need to clear security in the domestic airport to go to the lounge. Of course, you do have to leave time for exit customs and security at the international terminal, which means leaving a fairly significant buffer before departure time, a big downside of the lounge being in the domestic terminal.
