Indeed there are no fees to stop the service, and you actually will get a credit back for unused service during that month up to about $20. But, stopping can only be done for a maximum of three months at a time, and there might be a restriction to doing that once within every 12 months. The t&c’s are not too clear on that point.

And if it is your google voice number that is being used it can’t be used anywhere else while on pause.
