Welcome to China
Always use the IHG app (be careful of fake websites) and recheck info from other sites when booking hotels. It's the same as never use taxis provided by airport desks or runners. Even at the genuine taxi stand they will scam you if they think they can get away with it. Sadly that's China for you. A bit of homework should have pre warned you but sorry you're learning the hard way
