A few years back I was regularly bumped off CRJ's from JAX-ORD, and it was because of weight limitations. They regularly flew out with less than 50 passengers on board. At least once it was because they had to load extra fuel because of expected bad weather when they got up in the ORD area. I can certainly see them making you standby until they sort out the weight issues.
