So I can totally empathize w/ that person. Probably a rough day/night.

Just so long as your shoes are still on and you make an effort to keep things somewhat clean I personally dont mind.

My thoughts too. I'd be way more annoyed if someone had their shoes on the furniture than their socks or even their bare feet.

My feet get washed daily.
My socks get changed (so effectively washed) daily.

But I've been walking around downtown SF in my shoes, and I bet they've got some really disgusting stuff on them.
