I'm flying from LAX to KUL and MU/FM via PVG is giving me a good rate.

LAX - PVG is on MU, PVG - KUL on FM

I've heard that MU has improved a lot recently but I haven't really heard much about Shanghai Airlines. They don't seem to have really good reviews online but I would like to hear from those that use it frequently.

Do the FA's, ground crew and others speak good English? I've heard that this is an area of struggle for Air China and many other mainland Chinese airlines.
