We live on the East Coast, but wedding was in SF and honeymoon was in Hawaii. Using the "open jag" option we were able to fly from the east to SF, technically "stop over" for a week for our wedding, then continue on to Hawaii and back all as one frequent flier ticket on UA. This may only work when your third "open jag" stop is a natural stopover anyway (I'm sure other posters know a lot more about this than I do), but for us it saved a TON of money (would have been a $1500+ ticket each!). That's my big recommendation if the wedding and honeymoon are in different places from where you live.
Oh, and we booked almost 300 days out too... We got Economy Plus even though we have no status.
Good luck!
