I agree with the other posts on here. Apart from the main routes out of Dublin and Cork, the road system is not conducive to getting anywhere very quickly. Roads go right through towns, not around them, so if you enter a small town on market day, or when there is an event on, you might easily lose the best part of a hour.
Scale down the schedule (you can spend a week doing the Ring of Kerry alone and still have barely scratched the surface) - you'll enjoy it a LOT more, and the sights you cut from the schedule have been there for hundreds of years and will still be there the next time you visit!
