DTW doesn't participate with the mobile passport app, but even without that or without having GE the longest I've ever spent waiting to clear immigration and customs at DTW is 20 minutes and most times it's 10 minutes but I almost always carry on.

My flights always terminate at DTW so not sure how efficient it to go through security and recheck bags if necessary.

I would be worried about spending more time waiting on your bag at DTW. Last time I checked a bag on international I spend 40 minutes waiting for it on the belt and it was tagged sky priority (on that flight I saw non SP people getting their bags before SP).
