I've stayed at a Design Hotel booked through SPG that was refreshingly upfront about its policy: next time I should book directly by email and they will give me the SPG nights + points + their standard benefits (breakfast, minibar and happy hour drinks in the lobby) but if I book via SPG next time they will only give me the SPG nights and points. No breakfast and no happy hour drinks in the lobby.
