Basically BA cocked the booking up as a group booking and then couldn't be contacted by phone, then took 2 months to come up with the promised refunds and only then when it got into the media.

No it's the "they messed me about big-time, why would I trust them again" argument. Reading the media article I can see why the customers concerned wouldn't touch BA with a bargepole. If the €500 is a genuine offer of compensation why not just pay it in cash.
They couldn't book the honeymoon anyway as BA was sitting nicely on their €4,000 of savings.
