I've stayed in all the properties mentioned over the years and would pick the new QT Melbourne out of all of them by a pretty big margin. Good location, great design, quality fitout, good service.
The QT is certainly not a luxury hotel by the standards of this forum (and not setting out to be) but Melbourne is slim pickings on the luxury hotel front as has well noted in this thread.
I found QT Melbourne a fair bit less millennial in vibe than the QT Sydney which can be a bit OTT as they say.
The PH Melbourne is a good alternative and the suites overlooking St Patrick's Cathedral are quite special but the property is very tired.
The Crown hotels are least interesting locationwise for me at least as most of the great cafes, bars and restaurants in town are at the top end of the CBD or around Fitzroy. Southbank is kind of a deadzone except for tourist traps and the handful of celebrity restaurants they've been able to pull in to the area.
