As with everything in life, it depends. What else would you do with the money/miles? Are you working or sightseeing first thing when you land? Or will you go straight to a hotel? Is the rest of the flight full? Will you be in a middle seat?

Not trying to be difficult but there are so many mental machinations about whether it is worth or not that there is no "one size fits all" answer.
