I believe if you had an infant child you'd had no problem, but 13 years old - you paid an adult ticket for him, right?
Whilst I certainly do empathize with your plight, you clearly did violate the Lounge access rules.
>>> I am sorry if I missed this but do not see statement anywhere that says
that I need to stay with the guest in the lounge. I really did not think I was
violating any rules. I in fact mentioned this to both lounge attendants
and they did not object to me doing it.
I've updated the phrasing to be less ambiguous than what you quoted - you interpreted that language to believe a 13 year old is a "young child". And some Lounges are more family oriented, whilst others are very much "by the book" (BA is one airline notorious for their parsimonious lounge access enforcement).
I was reading the wiki and noticed 18+ as Adults and that is why I
commented. Yes, we did pay for him as Adult but I interpreted the Wiki
to mean under 18 kids to be OK as "non-guests" !
Thanks again for your response.
AA lounge procedures - and others that are nonpublished - state one must accompany their guest at all times.
Many of the rules are arcane or unpublished, which leads to misunderstandings and problems - Qantas First lounge at LAX access was in contention for months.
Better luck the next time; yo did what you could.
