Last time I was in the US, Arby's was using FD terminals with EMV and contactless; but my understanding is Arby's is getting rid of these everywhere to move to magnetic stripe.
The Dairy Queen by my house uses dialup for their FD35/FD100s and both EMV and contactless are pretty slow. The latter is a bit faster but it's hard to tell, unfortunately. Also, with automatic change machines, the cashier only needs to bother with giving out bills, which are easier to handle IMO.
As for Arby's, sounds like that one location didn't get the memo then.
