I am going back to AMS this fall and was really happy with my upgrade here last time. Only complaint I had was the Exec Lounge (at the time they gave all golds access and the place was a zoo) but am told they have made improvements to that situation.
It sounds like the DT's treatment of diamonds has really gone downhill and I'm considering the Hyatt this time instead. Last time I stayed here I received a sky suite upgrade on a cheap rate and it was one of the best upgrades I've ever received at a Hilton
Didn't stay at the Hyatt, but obviously location is a huge difference. The Doubletree is super easy for transit, but it is in a very un-charming neighborhood. The Hyatt Regency is on the edge of the inner rings, and less convenient for tourist sites, but Amsterdam is so small, and the street the Hyatt is on is so much more charming and inviting.
