My only guess would be maybe it was a messy IRROP day and they needed a gate to get the plane in and turned quickly?

I find a decent amount of flights to TPA, MCO, and CLT (the mainline ones) are leaving from B40/B41. Sucks for me but guessing it has to do with the relatively few elites traveling on the routes. It may not be the reason, but they seem to be very frequent users of the gates.
