The reason it's called the 405 is because it takes 4 or 5 hours to get anywhere. No way would I chance it. My friend left my house (Redondo Beach) yesterday around 3:30-3:45 & he got to Newport Beach at 6. Even deducting about 20 minutes for him to get from the 405 to the coast, that's still almost 2 hours. He wasn't in the HOV lane but that's not always better.
