The Melbourne hotel scene is as dull and mediocre as ever. However, I must say that my recent stay at the QT was very comfortable. And I say this as a pretentious, out & proud hotel snob. The young and pretty QT staff performed their tasks with effortless professionalism. The hotel's design was obviously meant to appeal to the millennial masses; but, it nonetheless succeeded in not offending my baby-boomer sense of style.
Still, the QT was never conceived to be a luxury hotel. It's firmly anchored in what is apparently known as the "lifestyle" category of hotels. Melbourne just does not have a luxury hotel. I know the Park Hyatt has its fans; but, for me, it's really just a 1990's relic. And the service is better at the QT.
What's with the Park Hyatt stringing us along with empty promises of a cosmetic renovation? Is such a long overdue touch-up ever going to happen?
