I'm not sure about the general acceptance in Thailand. I haven't been in two years but I have a vivid memory of signs in restaurants that say "We prefer Mastercard"
I agree... American Express is accepted at hotels, but outside of hotels and big malls, I think it was mostly Visa and Mastercard.
