I'm glad that the difference between wonderful & spectacular has been brought up on this forum. I have been trying to find the answer to that question. On occasion at the W Union Square I have booked a wonderful room and been upgraded to a (truly) spectacular room (and I'm only Gold)
On my last stay I decided to hedge and book a spectacular room just in case upgrades weren't available. Unfortunately, the room I got was the worst room I've ever had at the WUS. I know that there are many variables in room type (square footage, views, etc) but shouldn't there be some time of chart that clearly shows which rooms are cozy, wonderful etc? I've been assured that the room I had was "spectacular," but compared to the others I've stayed in at the same hotel it is difficult to believe. ( I didn't have a tape measure, but it certainly did not seem like the 420 sf promised in the description, plus it had a huge stone divider that blocked any view) I will say that in numerous stays at the WUS that was the only time I was disappointed in my room.
