Does the count include lap children? If it does, then there should have been red flags when the count comes up as having an extra person on board.
There shouldn't be this room for error with all the hue and cry made about safety (above passenger rights). Seems to me more like willful negligence.
It has been brought above that perhaps the FA confused the child's BP for a lap infant's, to which I wonder how long does it take for a trained flight attendant to read the seat no. on the Boarding Pass?
