I recently tried staying in a hostel. The place was very clean and I have no complaints about the facilities or the cost. But.....the atmosphere was designed for globetrotting party people. Pot is legal in the hostels location and no smoking was allowed inside. But me and all of my stuff reeked of pot when I left. The staff were friendly and kept the place clean but they also encouraged the alcohol and drug use. It just wasn't what I was looking for and I couldn't avoid it without leaving the property. The reviews on HostelWorld were very good but they gave no indication that the hostel was geared towards the recreational drug use culture.

How do you find hostels that are geared towards travelers instead of being a perpetual spring break for people having a hard time growing up? I'm guessing that the destination has something to do with it.
