Be aware the transaction date, not the posting date, is what AA uses when your miles are near expiry.
And any transaction counts - transferring miles, buying miles, gifting miles, any transaction.
Thanks, that was the part that wasn't clear (about transfers) in AA's rules section as they seemed to only mention bookings, purchases through other partners, and buying miles.
