1AB are blocked in advance, usually. Most flights will then release them, but some of the longer flights (I think ORD-HNL and maybe IAH-HNL) they are actually blocked for crew rest. Usually anything blocked in the forward cabin is always for flight crew, as I don't think FAs ever get premium seats for rest.
