Perhaps I am more cynical than you but I would take every thing that he and his managers say at an event like this with a very large degree of scepticism. AC is on record as saying that cost efficiencies (known as enhancements on FT) are part of BAs DNA.
BA senior management are focussed on one thing - cuts and if they have to pretend to listen and pay lip service to a bunch of GGL now and then, I guess they are experienced enough to do this.
Of course there is some of this, but don't forget that many, if not most, of the guests are also experienced senior leaders or business owners themselves - so are used to exactly these kinds of conversations in their normal business lives - suppliers overpromising, staff not being 100% honest etc. so I guess many of the guests were sceptical as we see the reality of Cruz's leadership in the service we receive.
I saw no sycophantic behaviour (why would there be?), but did see (and engaged in) some robust conversation whilst not being rude to the hosts, as I hope would be usual in any such situation.
