Different airports, across Europe and Asia. As far as I can remember, I've been required to check baggage in at Brussels, Singapore and Seoul in recent times (but have also checked in at the same 3 airports on other occasions without my cabin bags even being glanced at).

I've come to the conclusion that there's no point worrying about it, or over-thinking it. If it happens, it happens and life goes on.
