Superd1 - I am not sure I understand your question but when i returned to Port Angeles I entered the terminal building through a door toward the right hand side of the building, not the same door that we left in the morning. This took me into an unsecure area where the newstand and ticket counter are located. For the 6-8 people who were taking the flight back to Seattle (Dec 31 was a popular day for mileage runs) the gate agent came out to the plane and told the FA that those people should stay on board and the agents would come out to the plane and do security check on-board. So I guess the gate agents in Port Angeles are pretty customer service oriented now that you mention it.
