As noted, they probably misunderstood your request so call again or check via the web site. A valid reason also is when about 80%-90% of the seats are sold, most airlines will stop giving advance seat reservations (note: this usually doesnt apply to B/F or F/C seats). Then you must get your seat assignment at the airport.
