No, because this trip had multiple connections, I bought independent insurance. However, I did also use the Chase CC to pay the taxes on my (mileage) tickets, so I guess I could make a claim against the Chase insurance, as well, and whoever pays, pays.
S.F. was not an intermediate point on the way home. It was actually a part of our vacation, though it was going to be only a one-day part. Instead of going through S.F., we just figured we missed that part of the vacation, got a different flight to San Diego, took an Uber home, and ended our vacation a day early. We knew that we could have spent the night in San Diego and claimed that hotel, and incidental expenses for delayed luggage (our luggage didn't arrive with us in San Diego, but rather arrived at our house about a day and a half later), or spent the night in New York and claimed that hotel. But it just seemed to be easier to go home, get there at 3:30 am, and sleep in our own bed on Saturday night.
I guess I can just call the various carriers, advise them of the Uber cost and the lost payment for the S.F. hotel, and see what they'll cover. But my experience with the insurance reps has been that they aren't that bright, think only in a straight line, and are more likely to deny any claims unless I spoon feed them what was lost and what areas of coverage it falls under.
