If you decide to leave, you still have to be completely screened. This is because otherwise you might be an evil-doer who is either testing the system or actually carrying something nasty.

Unfortunately, if you do decide to leave, that immediately raises hackles, and many TSOs will go out of their way to make the ensuing grope even more invasive and offensive than usual to teach you a lesson. They suspect that you are going to leave and try a different checkpoint.

The fine could be up to $11K. If you have Precheck, they may temporarily suspend or revoke your Precheck. If the TSOs tell the cops to arrest you, the cops probably will. There are a few at airports that don't like TSA bullies, but most will go along with whatever a TSO tells them to do.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. There are older members of my family that no longer fly because of the humiliations and mistreatment at the checkpoint. It doesn't always happen, but unfortunately, you have zero recourse when it does.
