It has been made abundantly clear that DSUs are for members staying 60 nights (not Globalists) so I'm not surprised that this is an issue, even though the old rules ought to have applied up to 28 February.
However, in 2015 I had a supervisor add a DSU to my account when there was a screw-up about using a prior-year DSU for a post 1 March reservation. So it surely can be done.
It is also theoretically possible to confirm a suite upgrade without actually processing a DSU certificate.
Personally, I would take the Hyatt offer of 50K points and ask for one or two specific stays to be upgraded. This might be easier than fighting to have DSUs added to the account.
