I can see why people feel this way. Ironic, the seat allocation fee I booked and paid for in September has now gone up by another £5. I used to have status and now I largely don't fly with QF so no gold status and no free allocation of seat with BA. Fair enough.
However, to move to the adjacent seat right next to me that I already reserved costs extra £5. However, in that time, BA have also removed the meal that was included. Which also ironically was advertised on the BA website at the time 'as a reason to book BA'.
Did I get any compensation for the meal being removed? No. However, I was advised by the BA call centre in India that a meal won't cost more than £5. Great. Same as swapping my seat.
When I pointed that out, the operator (who I could also hear was also being coached on what to say in the background) said that there was nothing that she could do about this.
I have 3 flights with BA coming up. 2 in Club 1 in Y. They will probably be my last.
Air Canada did the same race to the bottom gouge as much out of everyone by component pricing. However, they gave me a meal when I pointed out that it was included when I bought my tix. No rubbish that actually it was always 'complimentary' we've just enhanced the service by giving people what they want a M&S sandwich option...
However, to treat paxs in this way is rather short sighted. We all have a choice.
I have status with other airlines so that's fine. We can all choose. Sounds like BA is morphing into an Easy jet or Ryanair. The model must be slash and burn or gouge and cut costs. I guess the management feel that there are plenty of punters out there. Treat them all as suckers.
Please don't insult Ryanair. Their economy offering in Europe is far better than British Airways.
