Four Points by Sheraton Hakodate, Japan [Master Thread]

Doesn't appear to be an existing thread, so time to start something new!

I completed a 2 night stay here recently and it was a mostly positive experience. There aren't many hotels in Hakodate, being a relatively small town, so it was a nice surprise to see a Western hotel chain offering. Right now it is a Category 2 property, so your best bet is to use points (3k/night!).

Location: Across the street from the JR Hakodate train station and only 1 block away from the touristy morning market, where you can find the seafood and melon vendors.

Check-in: I arrived in the morning but was not allowed to check in until 2pm. They did hold my luggage while I wandered around during the day. As a Platinum, I was "upgraded" to a room with twin beds. If anything, this was likely a bigger room than a room with 1 bed. I had a nice city view of the train station. Late check-out of 4pm was offered without asking.

Room: Typical Japanese hotel - small but fine for 1 person. Even though there were two beds, I could not imagine 2 people sharing this room without becoming frustrated with each other. If you are traveling as a couple, I would suggest booking your own rooms if possible. The bathroom was a bit cramped and if you are taller than 6ft, the ceiling might actually be an issue. Then again, this is no surprise for any tall person traveling in Japan. Toilet had a very nice washlet attached. Sink was ridiculously low and the glass shelf with the toiletries blocks the way if you are trying to wash your face. Sink is only for hand-washing, I think.

Room amenities: There was a mini fridge, which is nice for drinks and snacks purchased. A small tea/coffee maker is also included. Wireless internet was reasonably fast and there were plenty of outlets.

Keep in mind that this hotel offers smoking and non-smoking rooms, so be sure to request your preference. I was on the 12th floor and I couldn't smell a thing, but the 6th floor was smoking and you could definitely tell. There is a laundry room with 3 washer/dryer combo machines (6th flr, I think), detergent automatically included. I think it was a couple hundred JPY per load, not exactly cheap.

I selected breakfast as the Plat option and it was great. There's a restaurant on the 2nd floor and the breakfast buffet has both Western and Japanese options (hot and cold).

Misc info: There is a line of taxis right outside the hotel, in addition to the JR station and Hakodate tram station close by. If you are not a fan of the tourist trap Morning Market, there are other options for fresh sushi indulgence. I recommend Jiyu Market (between Shinkawacho and Matsukazecho tram stops) which has all of the same offerings but without the tourists. Do not miss out on local food options like Snaffles pastry and Lucky Pierrot burgers.
