They only way to upgrade a VA flight will be $$$ cash
VA have a bidding upgrade system, but your ticket may not be eligible.
VA will fly with empty premium economy and business class seats, like most non USA airlines.
DL do not fly to LAX-MEL, only LAX-SYD. VA do fly LAX MEL.
