Yes - I've done it before where there has only been one seat left in the fare bucket. Book at the same time on different devices, and you'll get the cheaper price for both. Slightly harder to administrate for 4 pax, unless you can get 2 on each.

When you're booking for the single person, does the flight selection screen say "X seats left at this price"?
