Any idea why Sri Lankan airways flights seem to have doubled in cost?
A week ago, I was planning a holiday trip to the Maldives. We have a lot of flexibility as to when we go so I had the prices saved for hotels and flights covering a 10 week period. All the Sri Lankan prices for LHR-MLE were either £1830 or £2130 for business return. A week later and all the same flights are showing £3644 - double what they were.
I would have expected some changes in a week, particularly for the earlier dates but not a doubling of prices across the board for an almost 3 month period. Their website didn't say they had a sale on last weekend or anything.
I do note they now have on their front page London > Male listed as a "Special Return Fare" for £2280 but when you click on it, there's no availability. Is this something they do, double the prices of their regular tickets in order to offer a limited number of 'special fare' tickets at a higher than regular price as if it's a bargain? In which case maybe I just need to wait another week or two? I notice that the FRA-MLE route is still really cheap and uses the same flights but includes a FRA-LHR transfer at both ends.
