What they say is they use XE to calculate the exchange rate not that their rate is the same as the XE exchange rate.
I have posted previously that when converting to AUD in a hotel I lost something over 10% compared to the interbank rate of the day.
If you pay with points on accor.com the rate is usually reflective of market rates, Otherwise I would only use them to pay at Euro denominated hotels.
I compared the XE rate and the bank rate they were using from AYA bank (
http://www.ayabank.com/en_US/) and it's both around 1.14, while the hotel was giving a rate of 1.02.
