How to get an AUP
They are only available on the day of travel from the airport. You cannot ring up for them or arrange it in advance. It is subject to availability of both seats and facilities at the airport concerned
I flew back from SAN just over a week ago and there were clear signs on the top of the check in desks offering paid upgrades. Mine was processed very quickly and it was all done within 5 minutes maximum and was a very efficient process with a friendly agent handling it all.
So in this instance you have to ask at SAN in answer to your question.
