You have to issue the award ticket by the end of June, but the ticket can be for travel anytime up to a year after the issue.

For example, In March I issued an award using miles expiring end of March, but for travel dates in December.

Bear in mind for some redemption promotions (like the current 15% off) you have to complete your travel by the end of that quarter.
