Maybe since VS has added more flights to ATL/JFK they have downgraded DL aircraft because the 764 use to always go to LHR.
My recollection was the 764s served LHR back when they were the only 76s with flat beds, and Delta wanted to ensure they could guarantee a lie-flat product in that market. Now that they've completed the mods, and partnered up with Virgin, the 764 is probably too much capacity.
