When will this be a problem? At the time of booking or travel? We will be married by then. The other option is that SO book her flight separately with KE - she also has about 100K. Might have to worry about KE having two award flights on same flight if booked separately.

It's an issue at time of booking. They will let you put seats on hold so depending on the timing that perhaps would work.

In terms of AMEX - there actually is a great use for them here but you'll need to again be comfortable being booked on separate reservations.
AMEX ---> Aeroplan gives you access to the same EVA flights that United does (and any other *A options that UA shows). 77.5k for JFK - TPE - DPS on EVA.
Signup for Aeroplan is free and you can poke around and see the options before transferring anything over. Transfer is nearly instant in my experience.
