I have found that there are a lot of hotels in Marriott's mid to lower tiers that only offer the one basic internet speed. Most of the Springhill Suites and Fairfield Inns that I stay at only have that one speed. And it tends to be slow.

So I got a tethering plan. I can use the 4G LTE connection on my phone instead of using hotel wifi. It is a lot faster, and a lot more secure than the open network, anyway. That is actually what I am doing right now...
