I did get approved eventually. But I heard the message loud and clear: the amount of my total CCL was making Chase nervous. So then I cut my total CCL in half, and started getting instant approvals again. Ironically Chase keeps giving me @$20K cls on my new cards, which I then have to cut way back once I meet the min spnd, in order to not get back to needing Supervisor approval again.

Thanks. That makes sense. I think above 60K is when they start getting nervous. Not just Chase, but Amex, Barclays, Citi and Bank of America as well. The difference is that BAC issues me a card and without even telling me reduces credit limit on other cards. Amex would approve my app but give me 5K limit on new cards. So each bank seems to have a different way of dealing with this.
