Orphan Lufthansa miles (8k, 3k) - best options?
I have 8000 Lufthansa miles, SO has 3000 Lufthansa miles. We are not based in EU anymore (USA now).

No plans to travel on Lufthansa for the next couple years (so these miles will expire for sure). Our Star Alliance travels are usually credited to United.

Are there any transfer options (to hotel, car, US-based-airline) programs even at a sort-of unfavorable rate?
