Perhaps they could ship your broken bag back and you can see if you have better luck with a local shop to fix the zipper?

Good luck with that, I needed repairs 7 times on 2 B&R bags, 0 of the 7 times was the local repair place able to repair them. I spent more money on shipping than I did on the bags originally, then I gave up on them, because they wouldn't swap out what obviously were lemons in their line.
I agree the options they gave you were awful, sounds very similar to my experience.
