Seriously, I think we should petition Congress for a law requiring all non-optional fees be included in room prices.
None of this small print BS. If you can't refuse the fee, it is part of the posted basic room rate. Period.
Perhaps an effective protest would be to book one or many refundable rooms, then call repeatedly to confirm the rate/fees/etc, and cancel if non optional fees are imposed? Resort fees might already be a ship that has sailed, but there aren't any markets where every property has these new fees.
Being obnoxious as a form of protest could be effective.
